Christina Suarez and Aimee Kern each registered singles and doubles decisions in leading UAlbany to a 5-2 victory over Holy Cross in non-conference action on Wednesday, April 6 at University Courts. The win snaps a four-match losing skid for the Great Danes.
Suarez and Kern picked up straight-set victories at No. 2 and No. 3 singles for UAlbany. Suarez defeated Carrie Simmons, 6-3, 6-4, while Kern downed Amy Garrity, 6-1, 6-4, who improved to 6-8 overall. Fellow freshmen Amanda Hall and Kim Westcott won in straight sets at third and fourth singles, respectively. Hall, who won her fourth straight match, upped her record to 11-3 on the spring.
The Great Danes swept the doubles matches with Courtney Michels and Kern teaming for a 9-7 pro-set win at No. 1. Hall and Westcott posted an 8-5 decision at No. 2, while Kyle Steller and Suarez won 8-4 at third doubles.
