KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - The 17th-ranked Tennessee Lady Vols tennis team will host a pair of top-25 opponents this weekend at the Goodfriend Tennis Center in No. 24 Notre Dame (Friday, 5 p.m.) and No. 10 Michigan (Sunday, 10 a.m.).
Tennessee is coming off of its first two wins of the season last weekend, defeating No. 58 UC Davis, 5-0, and No. 22 Tulsa, 4-0, to advance to the ITA National Indoor Team Championships (Feb. 10-13) for the third consecutive season.
The Lady Vols will face their fifth and sixth ranked opponents this weekend, five of which will have been rated in the Top 25. UT is 2-0 at home and 2-2 overall.
Although the Lady Vols have been dominant in doubles thus far, winning the point in all four matches, they’ll be tested this weekend. The Irish boast the fifth-ranked tandem of Kristy Frilling and Shannon Mathews, as well as No. 25 Britney Sanders and Katherine White. Michigan is led by 24th-ranked duo Brooke Bolender and Emina Bektas.
Additionally, the Wolverines are represented four times in the singles rankings, including three student-athletes in the top 53. Bektas and Bolender are ranked 36th and 46th, respectively, while Sam Critser is slotted at 53 and Mimi Nguyen is rated 113th.
Admission is free and fans can follow along with a live blog via UTLadyVols.com, as well as on Twitter (@LadyVol_Tennis). Live video will be streamed at the above link.
