Boren & Pluskota Earn ITA Regional Honors
Tuesday, 05/15/2012

Senior Natalie Pluskota has been selected the ITA Ohio Valley Region Arthur Ashe Leadership and Sportsmanship Award winner, while sophomore Brynn Boren was named the region's Player To Watch.

Both are the second Lady Vols to win their respective honors, as Pluskota joins Alison Ojeda (2002) and Boren joins Maria Sorbello (2010). The national award winners for both will be announced Tuesday, May 22.

Pluskota racked up her third postseason honor this season and 14th of her career. The honor recognizes players who exhibit outstanding sportsmanship and leadership as well as scholastic, extracurricular and tennis achievements.

No short of those attributes, Pluskota was also tabbed to the 2012 All-SEC second team and the SEC Community Service team.

The lone senior on a 2012 team that included four freshmen, Pluskota led Tennessee to an electrifying start. The Lady Vols opened the campaign with a 9-3 record and totaled six Top 25 wins, before injuries disrupted success.

A two-time All-American who became the eighth player in program history with 100 doubles wins, Pluskota will compete in the NCAA individual singles and doubles tournaments in Athens, Ga., beginning May 23 to wrap up her Lady Vol career.

Meanwhile, Boren adds to a list of impressive accolades after just two seasons at Tennessee. UT's lone All-SEC first team selection in 2012, Boren is 24-12 in singles and 29-10 in doubles.

Selected as the Ohio Valley Region's Rookie of the Year in 2011, Boren primarily played from the No. 2 position this season, winning 11 of her last 14 matches, including a career-high seven match winning streak.

Tennessee's highest-ranked player at 32, Boren will also compete in the NCAA Singles Tournament.

The Lady Vols concluded their season Saturday in the second round of the NCAA Team Tournament, losing 4-1 to 14th-ranked Virginia.
