Virginia senior Dominic Inglot and Duke senior Melissa Mang have been named Atlantic Coast Conference Tennis Players of the Week.
Inglot was named Men’s Tennis Player of the Week after he led the fifth-ranked Cavaliers to four wins, including a 6-1 win over No. 15 Illinois and a 7-0 shutout of No. 30 Notre Dame.
In singles, the London, England, native went 3-0 on the week, including a pair of wins over top-25 opponents. He defeated No. 23 Roy Kalmanovich of Illinois 6-1, 6-4 and rallied for a 4-5, 7-5, 10-7 win over No. 20 Brett Helgeson of Notre Dame. He also went 4-0 in doubles, pairing with Michael Shabaz.
Mang was named Women’s Tennis Player of the Week after she posted a 2-0 singles record, defeating a nationally-ranked opponent on the third day of the Michigan Invitational. She followed that up with a commanding 6-3, 6-1 victory over her Old Dominion foe at No. 5 singles. The win over nationally-ranked Amanda Preeg of Vanderbilt was her second of 2009.
Pairing up with Amanda Granson in doubles, the duo went 2-0, defeating a pair of ranked tandems. They edged their opponents from
Michigan, 9-7, and then beat the previously unbeaten pair from Old Dominion, 8-4, in Duke’s season opener.
