Entering his first season as head coach of the Winona State University women’s tennis team, Travis Whipple is in charge of helping the Warriors defend their 2008 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Championship.
Coach Whipple was officially named head coach of the women’s tennis team in August 2008. Coach Whipple takes over a program which has won the NSIC Tennis Championship four consecutive seasons and seven out of the last eight seasons.
Coach Whipple is a former member of the Winona State basketball team and played an important part in helping the Warriors win the 2006 and 2008 NCAA Division II National Championships. In 2007 Coach Whipple was part of a Warriors team which won an NCAA Division II record 57 consecutive victories and advanced to the NCAA Division II National Championship game. Coach Whipple played on Warriors teams which won the last three NSIC Regular Season Championships and the last three NSIC Tournament Championships.
Coach Whipple was a member of the 2008 NSIC All-Tournament Team. He has also earned NSIC All-Academic recognition during his basketball career.
Coach Whipple brings his knowledge and experience of tennis to Winona State after an exceptional high school career. At Hill-Murray (Minnesota) High School Coach Whipple was a four year letter winner and All-Conference selection. Coach Whipple has coached tennis to age groups ranging from youths to the college level.
Coach Whipple graduated from Winona State University in 2008 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Education. He is currently enrolled in the Graduate School at Winona State University where he is pursuing a Master of Science in Educational Leadership/Sport Management.
