Florida, Virginia Remain Atop ITA College Tennis Rankings

SKILLMAN, NJ - Courtesy of the ITA - After opening the 2013 spring season on top of the ITA College Tennis Rankings, the Florida women and Virginia men remained as the No. 1 teams in the nation.  The Gators will get their dual match season underway on Tuesday, January 29 with a home match against No. 43 South Florida, while the Cavaliers are set to host Arkansas, Georgia State, and North Florida this weekend as part of ITA Kick-Off Weekend.
 
Follow the Leader:  For the men, following Virginia is (in order): USC, UCLA, Ohio State, Duke, Georgia, Pepperdine, Oklahoma, Kentucky, and Stanford.  On the women’s side, Florida is followed by: UCLA, Duke, USC, Stanford, Georgia, Cal, North Carolina and Miami (FL) along with Alabama are tied for ninth.
 
Conference Count: Men’s Top 25:  SEC – 8; Pac-12 – 5; Big Ten – 4; ACC and Big 12 – 3; Conference USA and WCC – 1; Six different conferences placed at least one team in the top 10. Women’s Top 25:  SEC – 7; ACC – 6; Pac-12 – 4; Big 12 and Big Ten – 3; Big East and Conference USA – 1.  All four of the Pac-12 teams ranked in the top 25 landed inside the top 10 this week.
 
Kicking Off 2013: The ITA Kick-Off Weekend features 15 men’s and 15 women’s host sites with four teams at each site vying to advance to the ITA National Team Indoor Championships.  The 15 women’s teams to win both matches during Kick-Off Weekend will advance to the 2013 ITA National Women’s Team Indoor Championship, hosted by the University of Virginia at the Boar’s Head Sports Club in Charlottesville, VA from February 8-11.  The 15 men’s teams to win both matches will advance to the 2013 ITA National Men’s Team Indoor Championship, hosted by the University of Washington at Nordstrom Tennis Center and the Seattle Tennis Club in Seattle, WA on February 15-18.
