Lincoln, Neb. - The final day of the ITA Kick Off weekend ended with a bang for the Huskers. The Huskers (4-0, 0-0 Big Ten) defeated Notre Dame (3-1, 0-0 Big East) in the championship match 4-1. The victory awards the Huskers a bid at the National Team Indoor Championships on Feb. 8-11. Nebraska dominated the doubles matches to get a jump start in the match before closing the victory in four singles matches.
 
Nebraska and Notre Dame began the match with doubles. The No. 3 position saw the first victory for the Huskers with Maggy Lehmicke and Maike Zeppernick defeating Notre Dame's Julie Sabacinski and Molly O'Koniewski 8-2. The point was sealed quickly after at the No. 2 position where Huskers Stefanie Weinstein and Janine Weinreich edged past Notre Dame's Britney Sanders and Quinn Gleason 8-3. Nebraska's Mary Weatherholt and Patricia Veresova led 5-4 over Notre Dame's Jennifer Kellner and Chrissie McGaffigan when the doubles point was decided, leaving the No. 1 doubles match unfinished.
 
Headed into singles play with a 1-0 lead, the Huskers pushed the lead to 2-0 quickly at the No. 2 court with Patricia Veresova only dropping one game over Notre Dame's Jennifer Kellner 6-0, 6-1. The Fighting Irish made up ground at the No. 3 position where Quinn Gleason defeated Huskers' Stefanie Weinstein 6-2, 6-4.
 
Keeping focused, the Huskers extended their hold on the match with a victory at the No. 1 position by Mary Weatherholt who ousted Notre Dame's Britney Sanders 6-3, 6-4. Ahead of the Fighting Irish 3-1, the Huskers sealed the victory at the No. 5 position when Maggy Lehmicke rolled over Notre Dame's Julie Sabacinski 7-5, 6-4.
 
Victory in hand for Nebraska at 4-1, Janine Weinreich for the Huskers was leading Notre Dame's Chrissie McGaffigan 3-6, 6-3, 3-0 but the match went unfinished. The same was done at the No. 6 position where Nebraska's Maike Zeppernick was against Notre Dame's Molly O'Koniewski with a score of 7-6, 2-3 when the game stopped unfinished.
 
Nebraska heads to Ohio State next Saturday, Feb. 2 at 11 a.m. to face their first Big Ten opponent of the season.
