LOS ANGELES - The No. 2 UCLA women's tennis team embarks on one of its most important tournaments of the season this week, as the Bruins head to Charlottesville, Va. for the 2013 USTA/ITA National Team Indoors hosted by the University of Virginia. The tournament runs from Feb. 8-11 at the Boar's Head Sports Club.

UCLA is the defending champion at the event, defeating Duke, 4-0 in last year's final, also in Virginia. It marked the team's first-ever title at the Indoors after reaching the finals on two prior occasions (1990 and '95). The Bruins qualified for this year's event by winning a pair of matches during ITA Kick-Off Weekend two weeks ago at the Los Angeles Tennis Center. UCLA did not drop a single point during the two qualifying matches, downing both San Diego and Washington by 4-0 scores.

The 14 other teams to qualify for the National Team Indoors are: Duke, USC, Georgia, Cal, North Carolina, Miami, Texas, Alabama, Northwestern, Baylor, Michigan, Nebraska, Texas A&M and Vanderbilt. Host Virginia also joins the group and did not need to qualify by virtue of hosting the event. The draw is expected to be announced on Wednesday. UCLA is currently ranked No. 2 in the nation behind top-ranked Florida. Robin Anderson is the team's highest ranked singles player at No. 6. She is followed by No. 38 Kaitlin Ray, No. 47 Kyle McPhillips and No. 96 Pamela Montez. In doubles, Anderson and partner Skylar Morton check in at No. 16. Morton is also ranked with McPhillips at No. 25, while Anderson is also ranked with Montez at No. 29. New team and individual rankings will be released following this week's National Team Indoors. UCLA moved to 3-0 on the season last week, dispatching of local rival UC Irvine, 5-2 at the Los Angeles Tennis Center on Feb. 1. The Bruins won the doubles point and followed that up with straight-set wins from Kyle McPhillips, Chanelle Van Nguyen, Kaitlin Ray and Courtney Dolehide.

The Bruins are not scheduled to host another home match until USC visits the LATC on March 8.
