Sophomore Yannick Hanfmann was USC's most powerful singles player in getting the Trojans back to the ITA National Indoor Championships title match this past weekend. For his efforts, Hanfmann has been named Pac-12 Player of the Week for the first time this season and third time in his Trojan career.

Hanfmann was the lone Trojan to post three straight-set singles wins, including a huge boost for USC in a rivalry clash with No. 3 UCLA. #94 Hanfmann's 6-2, 6-4 upset of UCLA's #55 Dennis Mkrtchian was a big lift for the Trojans after dropping the doubles point. His win tied the match 1-1 as the rest of the singles matches extended into three sets. USC would go on to win it 4-3 in dramatic fashion, earning a place in Monday's final, where USC fell just short of defending its 2012 ITA Indoor title with a 4-2 loss to top-seeded Virginia. Hanfmann carried an eight-match singles win streak into final, where his No. 4 match was suspended in his third set against UVA's #5 Mac Styslinger. Hanfmann holds a 15-5 overall singles record with his three wins.

Hanfmann is the third Trojan to be named Pac-12 Player of the Week this season, following up wins by Emilio Gomez and Max de Vroome.

Hanfmann and the Trojans now turn to face rival UCLA for the second time in a week when the Bruins come to Troy for a 3 p.m. match on Friday (Feb. 22) at Marks Stadium.
