MINNEAPOLIS -- On the road for the first time in six weeks, Washington fell to No. 27 Drake, 4-3, on Saturday afternoon at the neutral courts of the University of Minnesota. The Dawgs won the doubles point and had two singles win, but could not close out either of the final two matches that went to three sets.

The Dawgs began by earning a big doubles point as Emmett Egger and Kyle McMorrow started off with a convincing 8-2 victory at No. 2. After losing the match at No. 3, it was then up to Hudson Barnhart and Max Manthou to take care of business at No.3 and the duo came through, winning 8-6.

In singles, Egger fell at the No. 4 spot to even the match at 1-1, before McMorrow put UW back on top. The senior defeated No. 49 Anis Ghorbel of Drake, 6-2, 6-4, for another big win over a ranked opponent.

The Dawgs then took a 3-1 lead when Marton Bots earned a straight-set victory also over a ranked opponent. Bots defeated No. 96 James McKie of Drake, 6-4, 7-5.

Drake closed the match to 3-2 with a win at No.5 as Viktor Farkas fell to Jean Erasmus, 6-1, 6-4.

That left things to either Manthou or Jeff Hawke to earn the final point for UW as each match went three sets. Unfortunately, it was not be for either Husky as both battled to the final point, but came up short. Robin Gooman defeated Manthou at No. 3, 6-0, 5-7, 6-4 to even the match at 3-3. Then, Ben Lott finished off Hawke, 3-6, 6-2, 7-5.

It was an unfortunate finish, but a great match between too highly-ranked teams. Next up for the Dawgs is facing the host school, Minnesota on Sunday. The Golden Gophers are ranked No. 66 and will be ready for Washington for the 10 a.m., PT start.
