USC tennis will be represented in both the men's and women's action out at the BNP Paribas Open this week in Indian Wells, Calif. Former Trojans Steve Johnson and Maria Sanchez secured wildcards into the singles main draw, opening up action today (March 6) in Indian Wells.
Seven-time All-American, four-time NCAA Team Champion and back-to-back NCAA Singles Champion Steve Johnson -- who is a semifinalist for the Sullivan Award (CLICK HERE TO VOTE FOR STEVIE!!) -- will kick off his competition in the men's main draw with a clash against Spain's Pablo Andujar. Johnson enters the BNP Paribas Open ranked No. 134 in the world. Andujar is No. 46.
Also an All-American at USC and the 2010 ITA National Indoor Singles Champion as a Trojan, Maria Sanchez ranks No. 112 in the world on the way into the women's main draw at the BNP Paribas Open. Sanchez opens up against Russia's No. 79-ranked Olga Puchkova.
