Courtesy of Bobby Knight: Friday brought us several surprises in the SEC as Ole Miss came from behind to beat Georgia 4-3, Tennessee went into Starkville and beat Mississippi State 4-2, South Carolina stunned Florida 4-3, and Texas A&M put a stop to Vanderbilt’s 6 match winning streak and won 5-2. The biggest upset of the day came when Baylor took it to #5 Kentucky winning by a 6-1 score. It’s got to the point where it’s very hard to figure out what’s going to happen on a weekly basis in the SEC because just about anybody can be beaten on a given day. I’ll give it another try and look ahead to the Sunday’s matches along with the Baylor/UCLA dual. Feel free to follow along at the provided links.
#2 UCLA at #38 Baylor – 1pm est/Noon cst – Live Scoring, Live Video, and BU Live Blog – Baylor put together a dominating performance on Friday rolling over Kentucky 6-1. That match started a 7 day period where the Bears play Kentucky, UCLA, Virginia, and Ole Miss – talk about an aggressive schedule. I think Baylor will give UCLA everything it wants in this one. If Baylor can find a way to get the doubles point I like their chances. I’ll go with the Bears in an upset for the 2nd match in a row. Prediction: Baylor 4-3
#7 Georgia at #11 Mississippi State – 2pm est/1pm cst –Live Scoring – Both teams had disappointing losses on Friday and will be looking to turn it around. I look for Georgia to switch Pasha and Wagland and Pieters and Smith in the lineup and I think those changes will make the difference and Georgia gets the win. Prediction: Georgia 4-1
#10 Tennessee at #9 Ole Miss – 2pm est/1pm cst – UT Live Blog , Ole Miss Live Blog, Live Scoring – Both of these teams had nice wins on Friday and will be looking to finish the weekend off with a 2-0 record. I like Ole Miss at 2, 4, and 5 singles and look for them to get the doubles point as well. Prediction: Ole Miss 4-2
#5 Kentucky at #14 Texas A&M – 2pm est/1pm cst – Live Scoring – Kentucky will look to rebound from a 6-1 loss to Baylor while Texas A&M looks to beat its 2nd straight top 20 team at home. Texas A&M has played very well in doubles and I look for them to take the 1-0 lead. I like Anthony Rossi and Tom Jomby at 1 and 2 for UK while I like Harrison Adams and Shane Vinsant at 3 and 4 for A&M. I like Grant Roberts at 5 for Kentucky and in a big test at 6 I like Kevin Lai to give Kentucky its 4th point. Prediction: Kentucky 4-3
#4 Duke at #24 Cal – 4pm est/1pm pst – Live Video – Duke heads out to the west coast for its first outdoor match of the year and I don’t see them having too much trouble with Cal. The Bears best chance for a point will come at either 2 or 3 singles. Prediction: Duke 6-1
