SANTA CLARA, Calif. – The #6-ranked Pepperdine men’s tennis team extended its win streak to six matches after topping both San Francisco and #67 Santa Clara this weekend in West Coast Conference action. The Waves improve to 16-4 on the season and 3-0 in league play.
 
Yesterday, the Waves topped USF at the Cal Club by a score of 6-1. The Dons claimed the doubles point before Pepperdine won all six singles matches.
 
Francis Alcantara (Cagayan de Oro, Philippines/Fresno State) got the Waves off and running in singles, putting away 6-0, 6-0 decision versus Rich Van Hout.
 
Also winning in straight sets was Alex Sarkissian (Glendale, Calif./Glendale CC) and Sebastian Fanselow (Essen, Germany/Kaplan College Prep).
 
Kento Tanaka-Tamaki (Kihei, Hawaii/St. Anthony Junior-Senior HS) split sets with Jonathon Knowlman before cruising 6-0 in the third to tally his second win of the dual season.
 
On Saturday, the Waves and Broncos opened the match in singles. Pepperdine won four of the six matches and the teams elected to forego doubles with the dual decided.
 
Fanselow won once again in the top match, downing #63-ranked John Lamble 6-4, 6-1.
 
David Sofaer (Bellevue Hill, Australia/Sydney Distance Education HS) also won in straight sets with a convincing 6-1, 6-3 triumph against Eugene Muchynski (SCU).
 
Finn Tearney (Wellington, New Zealand/Wellington College) defeated Ilya Osintsev 6-4, 6-4, while Alcantara prevailed in three sets against Tom Pham to put point No. 4 on the board for the Waves.
 
Pepperdine continues its WCC road swing with stops at Gonzaga (April 5) and Portland (April 6) next weekend.
