NORMAN, Okla. -- The No. 11 University of Oklahoma men’s tennis team opens Big 12 play as the unanimous preseason No. 1 in the 2013 Big 12 Coaches’ poll.
“It is nice to be voted the preseason favorite, but we know it really means nothing as we have to go out and win the matches,” OU head coach John Roddick said. “I know our players are excited to get the conference season underway.”
OU, who is 13-5 on the season and 6-1 at home, received five first place votes and 25 total points in the coaches’ poll.
The Sooners are trailed in second and third place by No. 22 Baylor and No. 17 Texas, respectively. No. 36 TCU, No. 39 Texas Tech and Oklahoma State round out the preseason rankings.
Last year, OU was the preseason No. 2 team, with two first place votes and 21 total points. The 2012 team went undefeated in regular season Big 12 play and won the Big 12 Championships.
The Sooners begin their Big 12 schedule against border state rival Texas Friday, April 5, at 5:30 p.m. in Norman.
Big 12 Championships will be hosted in Norman Friday, April 26 to Sunday, April 28. Fans can purchase tickets online at SoonerSports.com or by calling the OU Athletics Ticket Office at 1-800-456-GoOU or (405) 325-2424.
