Virginia, North Carolina Hold On to No. 1 Spot in New Rankings

SKILLMAN, NJ: Courtesy of the ITA (April 2) -- Less than two points separate the top teams in both the men’s and women’s ITA College Tennis Rankings as the Virginia men and North Carolina women hang-on to the No. 1 spots.  The Virginia men remained at No. 1 after a pair of conference wins last week, extending their consecutive ACC win streak to 97 matches while the North Carolina women faced their first setback in over a month as No. 18 Virginia handed them their first loss in nine matches.

Follow the Leader: For the men, following Virginia is (in order): UCLA, USC, Georgia, Ohio State, Tennessee, Ole Miss, Kentucky, Duke, and Pepperdine.  On the women’s side, North Carolina is followed by Florida, Georgia, Texas A&M, USC, Duke, Alabama, Michigan, UCLA, and Miami (Florida).

Conference Count: Men’s Top 25: SEC – 9; ACC – 4; Big 12 & Pac-12 – 3; Atlantic 10, Big Ten, Conference USA, Ivy League, Missouri Valley, & WCC – 1.  The SEC has placed four men’s teams inside the Top 10, while the ACC and the Pac-12 have two each.  Women’s Top 25: ACC & SEC – 6; Pac-12 – 5; Big Ten – 4; Big 12 – 2; Big East & Conference USA – 1.  The SEC has four women’s teams in the Top 10, to go along with three from the ACC and two from the Pac-12.

Double Dip: A total of 12 schools have both their men’s and women’s programs inside the Top 25.  Duke, Georgia, UCLA, and USC find both their men’s and women’s teams inside the Top 10 this week.
