URBANA, Ill. - The women's tennis team continued its historic season on Friday, as Alexa Guarachi won her singles match and then teamed up with Mary Anne Macfarlane to win their doubles match to advance to the quarterfinal round of the NCAA Singles and Doubles Championships. This will be the first time the Crimson Tide is represented in the quarterfinals in program history.

In the first set of Guarachi's singles match, TCU's Stefanie Tan picked up an early break to lead, 3-2, however the Tide senior would break back in the next game to even the set at 3-3. From that point, she would not drop a game, taking the first set, 6-3. In the second, Tan got off to a 2-0 start and used that momentum to carry her throughout the set, eventually winning, 6-2, to force a third. In the final set, Guarachi broke to open, but Tan would come back to tie it at 2-2 and 4-4. In the end, Guarachi broke to lead, 5-4, and served for the win to advance to the quarterfinals.

In doubles, Guarachi and Macfarlane came out blazing, winning the first four games, en route to a 6-1 first-set victory. The second was much closer as it remained on serve until the Tide duo broke to go up, 5-4, then served for the win.

Guarachi's quarterfinal singles match will take place at Noon CT on Saturday against Rice's Natalie Beazant. Alabama's opponent in doubles will be the winner of the match between Georgia's Kate Fuller and Silvia Garcia and Texas Tech's Samantha Adams and Kenna Kilgo. A time is yet to be determined.
