Well Virginia finally managed to get the monkey off its back with a thrilling win over UCLA in the finals so now the question is can they do it again and start a USC-like dynasty? It’s a little too early to make a prediction on that but I can assure you they’ll be in contention for many years to come with the group of top flight talent that Brian Boland has put together in Charlottesville.
It’s time to look back and hand out some year-end awards to the players that excelled throughout the year.
Player of the Year:
Blaz Rola (Ohio State) – The Buckeye junior from Slovenia, who is your 2013 NCAA Singles Champion, finished the year with a 32-1 record including a 26-1 dual match record. Rola just dropped 9 sets on the year. Rola also went 28-1 on the year in doubles with he and Kevin Metka posting a 21-0 record at #3 doubles.

Hiltzik (Illinois) – The Illini freshmen from Wilmette, IL went 29-11 on the year including an 18-5 dual match record playing at 1 and 2. Hiltzik handed NCAA Champion Blaz Rola his only defeat of the year and did so in straight sets 6-4 7-5.
