COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The Intercollegiate Tennis Association announced its preseason singles and doubles rankings for the upcoming fall season earlier this afternoon. Four individuals and two doubles pairs from the Texas A&M men’s tennis team were ranked in the top-80 in singles and the two tandems were ranked in the top-15.

“I’m really excited about the upcoming season and how many highly ranked singles and doubles players we have on our team,” A&M head coach Steve Denton said. “More importantly, the rankings reflect where our guys finished up last season, which I was very pleased about. Having said that, this is a new season and I expect they will be even hungrier to continue to improve their individual games as they battle for spots in our lineup.

Junior Jeremy Efferding led the Aggies to their 20th consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance in 2013 and garnered the highest singles ranking at No. 11 for the Maroon and White. Efferding, from Boca Raton, Fla., became the first player in A&M history to upset the ITA’s top-ranked player last season when he defeated eventual national champion Virginia’s Alex Domijan. The No. 11 ranking is the highest placement for an Aggie since six-time All-American Austin Krajicek came in at No. 5 in 2010.

Sophomores Shane Vinsant and Harry Adams came in at No. 56 and 67, respectively, after impressive freshmen campaigns that featured All-SEC Second Team honors. The duo of Adams and Vinsant also garnered a No. 12 ranking after advancing to the USTA/ITA National Indoor Championships in Flushing, New York, last fall.

All-Americans Junior Ore and Jackson Withrow earned the highest overall ranking for the Aggies by coming in at No. 3 in doubles. The pair owns an overall record of 30-19 and finished last season ranked in the top-10, marking the sixth time in the last seven seasons the Aggies have had a doubles team ranked in the top-10 in the final rankings, including the 2011 national champion duo of Austin Krajicek and Jeff Dadamo. Ore also rounded out the singles rankings for the Maroon and White, coming in at No. 78.

“We start team practice for the fall on Monday and we will be devoting our full attention to make each and every player better,” Denton said. “I think we have a very special group, but they will have to bring it every day in practice for us to have a great season. We can’t wait to get rolling.”

Texas A&M kicks off the fall season on Sept. 20 when the team will travel to the Napa Valley Invitational and the SEC Fall Classic. To learn more about the men’s tennis team, visit AggieAthletics.com and follow @AggieMTEN on Twitter.
