The University of Memphis men’s tennis team opened the 2013-14 season with multiple entries in the ITA Preseason Rankings released Friday. The senior tandem of David O’Hare and Joe Salisbury opened the season as the No. 18 ranked doubles team in the country, while the other senior tandem of Johnny Grimal and David O’Leary will start the season as the No. 54 ranked doubles team in the country.

In singles, junior Connor Glennon, the C-USA Player of the Year last year, will open the year at No. 91 in the college singles rankings.

The pre-season rankings are important in getting the Tigers into prestigious fall tournaments, allowing them to build national rankings heading into the spring dual season slate.

Glennon, Grimal and Salisbury will also qualify for the Qualifying Draw at the ITA All-American championships in Tulsa, Okla., Sept. 28-Oct. 6th. Salisbury won his way all the way from the prequalifying draw into the main draw at last year’s championships, becoming the first Tiger in school history to appear in the main draw singles field.

Hoping to repeat Salisbury’s feat from last year will be four of his Tiger teammates – O’Leary, O’Hare, Cedric De Zutter and Jarryd Woog will all begin their All-American runs in the prequalifying round in singles play.

In doubles at the ITA All-American, the doubles team of O’Hare and Salisbury are slated to start their run in the Qualifying Draw.

The men’s tennis team will start their fall slate with four players participating in the Olympia Fields tournament in Chicago, Sept. 13-15th. That tournament field includes teams from Illinois, Kentucky, Virginia, Texas and Notre Dame and will give the Tigers’ players four singles matches and three doubles matches against some of the top teams in the country to start their fall calendar.
