Flushing, N.Y. - UCLA women's tennis players got off to a great start at the USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships at the USTA's Billie Jean King National Tennis Center on Thursday, finishing the day with a perfect 4-0 record.
Top-seeded Jennifer Brady and Catherine Harrison got things started for the Bruins with an 8-4 victory over Auburn's Jackie Kasler and Jennifer Pfeifler in the round of 16. Brady and Harrison, who received a bye in the first round, will meet a pair of familar opponents in Friday's quarterfinals, where USC's Giuliana Olmos and Zoe Scandalis await.

UCLA also went 3-0 in singles action on Thursday, as Robin Anderson, Chanelle Van Nguyen and Brady all notched victories in the first round. Anderson, the tournament's No. 2 seed, downed Georgia State's Abigail Tere-Apisah, 6-3, 6-4, setting up a second-round meeting with Valentine Confalonieri of Lynn University. Van Nguyen was also a straight-set winner for the Bruins, posting a 6-3, 6-3 win over Virginia's Danielle Collins. Van Nguyen will have a much tougher test in the second round, where she will meet top-seeded Jamie Loeb of North Carolina.

Brady picked up the biggest win on the day for the Bruins in singles, as the Bruin freshman upset third-seeded Beatrice Capra of Duke, 2-6, 6-2, 6-4. She will take on Virginia's Rachel Pierson in the second round.
