ATHENS, Ga.—Caroline Brinson has signed a national letter-of-intent to attend the University of Georgia, head coach Jeff Wallace announced Friday. Brinson will join the Bulldogs in January and be part of the team heading into the spring season.

A native of New Orleans, Brinson is a five-time high school state singles champion and was ranked as high as No. 18 by TennisRecruiting.net in its 2014 recruiting rankings.

Brinson will be a third generation UGA student-athlete. Her mother, the former Elizabeth Alexander, played tennis for Georgia from 1988-89, helping Georgia win the SEC Championship in 1989. Her grandfather, Vernon Brinson, played baseball at Georgia from 1958-59.

“Drake and I are really excited that Caroline will be joining us in January,” Wallace said. “I was fortunate to coach her mom who was one of our best, and now it’s really special and exciting that Caroline is joining our program. We’re looking forward to getting her on campus and getting her career as a Bulldog started.”

Brinson is a two-time Southern Closed doubles champion and has won two bronze balls in doubles at the Easter Bowl and at National Clay Courts.

A National High School Tennis All-American, Brinson was awarded the 2013 Louisiana Junior Achievement of the Year Award for outstanding tennis performance and sportsmanship by the USTA. Also in 2013, she was named the state’s Junior Tennis Sportsperson of the Year and inducted into the National Honor Society.

“Georgia has always been a dream school for me so I’m thrilled to finally become a Georgia Bulldog,” Brinson said. “I’m looking forward to being a part of one of the best programs in the country and taking my game to the next level.”

The weeklong fall signing period will continue through Wednesday.
