Four Tigers Finish Fall Action at Dickie V Classic

BRADENTON, Fla. - Freshman Reka Muller advanced to the Dickie V Classic singles quarterfinals, while sophomore Paula de Man battled to the consolation semifinals as part of the Auburn women's tennis team concluded fall action over the weekend.
 
Muller worked her way to the singles quarterfinal round before falling to Florida's Olivia Janowicz, 6-4, 6-4 on Saturday. The freshman opened up the draw by cruising to a 6-3, 6-1 victory over Oklahoma State's Maria Alvarez. On Friday, Muller battled to a three-set win over Carolina Wegner of Memphis, 1-6, 6-1, 6-0.
 
Despite dropping her first match of the tournament to Memphis' Liza Tymchenka, de Man worked her way through the consolation draw and battled to the semifinal round, but fell short 6-1, 6-4 to Alyssa Hibberd of Memphis.
 
The sophomore opened play in the consolation draw on Friday and took down Mississippi State's Naomi Tran 7-5, 6-3, 1-0 (9). de Man breezed past Memphis' Anki Wind on Saturday morning 6-4, 6-3 to advance to the consolation semifinals. Facing Memphis' Hibberd, de Man fell short 6-1, 6-4.
 
Ashley Kitchen took down the tournament's No. 3 seed on Friday after losing her opening match against Florida's Stefani Stojic, 6-2, 6-4. Kitchen dropped Notre Dame's Jennifer Kellum, 6-2, 6-7, 1-0 (8) in a thrilling three-set victory. Kitchen's tournament run ended in the consolation quarterfinals losing to Memphis' Hibberd 6-0, 6-2 on Saturday.
 
Lindsey Whitehead also competed at the Dickie V Classic for the Tigers, but finished 0-2. The freshman fell to Mississippi State's Alexandra Perper, 6-3, 6-2 on Friday and lost her consolation match on Friday to Notre Dame's Molly O'Kaniekski, 6-1, 6-3.
 
Auburn's two doubles squad lost their matches in the single elimination draw. The team of de Man/Muller fell 8-3 to Memphis' Hibberd/Wegner on Friday. The tandem of Whitehead/Kitchen dropped their match against the tournament's no. 3 seeded team of Vanderbilt's Campbell/Colton.
