Idaho - Boise State defeated UC Irvine 5-2 in a men's tennis match Friday afternoon at the Appleton Tennis Center to extend the 22nd-ranked Broncos' home win streak to nine.

Broncos Rally to Beat Rebels 5-2
The No. 46 Boise State men's tennis team topped No. 59 UNLV, 5-2 in a Mountain West showdown, Friday.

        
WHAT’S HAPPENING THIS WEEK
  • Schedule: The 45th-ranked Broncos (2-4, 0-0 MW) are on the road for the fifth straight week as they travel to Las Vegas, Nev., for two matches on Saturday. They will face the UC Irvine Anteaters (3-6) from the Big West Conference at 10 a.m. (Mountain) to open the day, then follow with the Mountain West Conference opener against their host the UNLV Rebels (3-1, 0-0 MW).     
  • Location: Both contests this Saturday will be played at UNLV’s Frank and Vicki Fertitta Tennis Complex.
  • Last Year Vs. UNLV: Boise State and UNLV did not meet last year.
  • Last Year Vs. UC Irvine: The Broncos defeated the Anteaters 5-2 at the Appleton Tennis Center in Boise on April 11, 2014.

  • Next week Boise State will defend its back-to-back titles at the Blue Gray National Tennis Classic in Montgomery, Ala. 
  • The field includes: No. 45 Alabama, No. 38 Auburn, No. 34 Clemson, No. 28 Mississippi State, No. 57 Princeton, No. 25 South Florida and No. 36 Texas Tech.
  • The trip to the Blue Gray National Tennis Classic will wrap-up six consecutive weeks on the road for the Broncos who will host their first match Feb. 27 against No. 54 Utah.
      
LAST WEEK’S STANDOUT
  • Last weekend the Broncos lost a pair of matches in Evanston, Ill., where they faced No. 26 Northwestern (L 7-0) and No. 30 Harvard (L 4-3).
  • Bronco of the Week: Thomas Tenreiro split in singles last week recording an upset of 57th-ranked Denis Nguyen from Harvard. Tenreiro rallied from one set down falling 1-6 to open the match, then won set two 7-5 to force a 10-point tiebreaker in the third. He rallied from 3-1 down to win the tiebreaker 10-7.
      
ITA NATIOANAL RANKINGS
  • There are no updated team rankings during the week of the National Indoor Team Championship so Boise State remains at No. 45 in this week’s ITA National rankings. The Broncos are tied for 45th with the Alabama Crimson Tide.
  • The Broncos opened the season ranked 33rd.
            
ANOTHER TOUGH SCHEDULE
  • As usual Boise State has not shied away from a tough schedule in 2015 which features 28 matches.
  • Of the 28 matches, 15 will be against teams currently ranked in this week’s ITA Top-75 and one other (San Diego State) that has been ranked. 
  • Included among the 15 ranked opponents are the three contests at the Blue Gray National Tennis Classic in which Boise State does not know who it will play yet, however, all seven potential opponents are ranked.
  • Mountain West members currently ranked are: No. 45 Boise State, No. 58 New Mexico, No. 70 Nevada and No. 73 Utah State, San Diego State was ranked the first two weeks of the season.
  • The Broncos are currently 1-4 versus nationally ranked teams this season. 
     
QUICK LOOK AT BOISE STATE
  • The Broncos are currently 2-4 overall entering the weekend.
  • The Broncos went 28-5 overall and finished the year ranked 29th.
  • The first home match for Boise State is schedule for Feb. 27 versus both No. 54 Utah and No. 51 Penn. The Blue and Orange went 14-1 at home last season competing at both the Boas Indoor Tennis Center and the Appleton Outdoor Tennis Center.
  • Boise State finished the 2014 campaign ranked fourth nationally in total attendance, while the women came in at third. 
  • So far this season the Broncos are 2-4 on the road. Boise State went 14-4 on the road in 2014.
  • Greg Patton is in his 19th season as head coach at Boise State where he is 410-154 overall in team duals, his career mark is 761-347 in 35 years.
     
DEFENDING MW CHAMPIONS
  • League Champions:   Boise State is the three-time defending Mountain West Tournament champion and is undefeated in the event since joining the league for the 2011-12 season. 
  • NCAA Tournament Participant:  Boise State advanced to the NCAA Tournament in 2014 for the 17th time in school history and the ninth time in the last nine years. 
     
ITA REGIONAL RANKINGS
  • Boise State has four players regionally ranked by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA). Regional rankings come out once in the spring semester just before the season starts, they are based on fall results.
  • Singles: Senior Garrett Patton begins the 2015 dual season ranked ninth in the ITA Mountain Region, while junior Thomas Tenreiro is 10th. 
  • Doubles: In doubles the team of junior Brian Foley and junior Toby Mitchell enter the spring ranked ninth in the region.
