LAS VEGAS, Nev. (2/14/2015) – Boise State was in Las Vegas Saturday afternoon where the Broncos split a pair of tough matches falling 4-3 to UC Irvine before regrouping to win their Mountain West opener against UNLV by a 5-2 score. The Broncos won the doubles point in both matches with the team of Lewis Roskilly and Thomas Tenriero winning both contests. In singles Boise State was led by senior Garrett Patton who was the only Bronco to win both matches on the day. The split moves Boise State to 3-5 on the year and 1-0 in league play.
UC Irvine Match Recap
The day began with a nonconference encounter with UC Irvine of the Big West Conference. The Broncos battled hard but lost a tight 4-3 contest to the Anteaters. Boise State opened by taking the early advantage claiming the doubles points 2-1 with wins by Roskilly and Tenreiro 6-2 on court two, as well as a 6-4 win by Toby Mitchell and Patton on court one.
In singles Patton handed the Broncos a 2-0 advantage when he defeated Nico Mertens in straight sets 6-4, 6-3. The Anteaters began to rally when Jonathon Hammel downed Roskilly 6-2, 6-2 at No. 5 singles. UCI then tied the team score when Tyler Phan edge Brian Foley 7-6 (6), 6-4 on court four.
Momentum continued the way of UCI as the Anteaters took the lead with a three set 6-1, 2-6, 6-1 victory on court one where Tenreiro lost to Irvine’s Sebastian Heim. Rafael Davidian clinched the team victory for UC Irvine on court six where he tallied a three-set victory over Abe Hewko 6-4, 6-7 (7), 6-3.
The final match went to Boise State as Toby Mitchell rallied from one set down to defeat Shuhei Shibaraha 2-6, 6-4, 7-6 (4) making the final score 4-3 UCI.

UNLV Match Recap
The second match of the day against their host the UNLV Rebels was the Mountain West opener for both schools. Boise State won the match 5-2 over the Rebels. The Broncos opened by winning the doubles point 2-0 with victories on courts two and three. Brian Foley and Abe Hewko teamed up to win 6-4 at No. 3 doubles over Adam Gage-Brown and Alexandr Cozbinov. The second match completed went to the Broncos’ Thomas Tenreiro and Lewis Roskilly on court two 6-3 versus Ruben Alberts and Ace Matias.
The singles competition opened with the Broncos’ Tenreiro falling 6-3, 6-1 to even the team score at one all. Foley regained the advantage for Boise State when he downed Cozbinov in straight sets 6-3, 6-3. Foley is now 8-11 overall and 4-3 in duals.
Roskilly extended the Bronco lead to 3-1 when he put away UNLV’s Alberts 7-5, 6-3 at No. 5 singles. The freshman from England is now 7-7 on the year in singles.
UNLV closed the gap to 3-2 with a 6-4, 6-4 victory by Jakob Amilon on court three over Boise State’s Toby Mitchell.
Garrett Patton earned the clincher for Boise State at No. 2 singles where he downed Denys Pume in three sets. He rallied after dropping the opening frame 4-6, then won the second 6-1 and the third 6-4. The senior from Boise is now 8-6 on the year.
The final match also went the way of the Broncos when Hewko won a 10-point tiebreak to decide the third set. The sophomore won 7-6 (5), 4-6, 1-0 (10-7) to improve to 8-7 overall.
