The March 3rd CTO/MDTA Division 1 Men’s Coaches Poll is out and the Oklahoma Sooners (12-1) are back at #1 for the 2nd poll in a row.  After winning the National Indoors, the Sooners suffered their 1st loss of the season in College Station against Texas A&M but they’ve since been able to defeat both North Carolina and Florida State.  Next up for Oklahoma is a Friday trip to Columbus to face Ohio State where the Sooners will try to put an end to the Buckeyes NCAA record 200-match home court-winning streak.  The following Tuesday Oklahoma will host Virginia before taking the rest of the week off.

POLL RESULTS: CTO/MDTA  |  ITA RANKINGS

Baylor (9-2) rises up to #2 after knocking off Virginia and UCLA over the last 2 weeks.  The schedule doesn’t get much easier for the Bears as Matt Knoll’s team hosts TCU later this evening and then heads out on the road to face Memphis on Sunday and Ole Miss next Tuesday.

Illinois (13-2) comes in at #3 after picking up notable wins over Northwestern, Indiana, and Notre Dame over the last 2 weeks.  Illinois is off this week but the following weekend they play Texas, Texas A&M, and TCU on back-to-back-to-back days.

USC (10-2) drops to #4 this week after suffering one of the biggest stunners in recent memory when the Trojans fell to Tulsa 4-3.  USC heads to La Jolla this weekend for the Pacific Coast Doubles Championship but will also squeeze in a match with San Diego on Thursday.  The following Saturday USC hosts cross-town UCLA in a non-conference match with the Pac 12 Network to televise the showdown.

Georgia (9-2) comes in at #5 after picking up a pair of road wins last weekend over Florida and Auburn.  This weekend will be another big one for Manny Diaz’s Bulldogs as they host Texas A&M on Friday and LSU on Sunday.  The following weekend they go to Tennessee and Kentucky.

Duke (13-1), Texas (11-1), Virginia (7-2), Ohio State (12-3), and Ole Miss (9-2) come in at 6-10. Texas A&M (6-1), North Carolina (11-5), Columbia (5-2), TCU (8-3), and UCLA (7-5) are 11-15.  California (9-3), Wake Forest (8-3), Notre Dame (6-3), Florida (6-3), and Vanderbilt (10-3) are 16-20. Oklahoma State (8-3), Harvard (11-3), Northwestern (8-5), South Florida (7-4), and Mississippi State (9-3) round out the final 5 spots.

Also receiving votes but not garnering enough to make this week’s Top 25 are Tulsa (10-6), Drake (11-3), San Diego (8-2), Princeton (9-3), North Carolina State (10-3), and LSU (11-1)

The MDTA (Men’s Division 1 Tennis Association) was formed 2013 to provide a forum for Men’s D1 Coaches to discuss issues that are unique and special to Division 1 Men’s Tennis; for more information about the MDTA you can visit their website at www.mensdivisiononetennis.org .  All Division I Men’s Head Coaches and Assistant Coaches are eligible to vote in the poll.
