RENO, Nev. - Boise State ran out to a 3-0 lead, then held off a Nevada rally attempt as the Broncos claimed a 4-3 Mountain West Conference road victory over the Wolf Pack Friday afternoon in Reno. Boise State won the doubles point followed by singles victories from Lewis Roskilly, Toby Mitchell and Garrett Patton, respectively. Patton’s win was the match clincher as the Broncos opened the weekend road trip with a tight win to improve to 10-14 overall and 3-2 in league play.
 
Boise State opened the match by claiming the team doubles points 2-0 over Nevada. Brian Foley and Danny Moyer brought home the first victory 6-3 on court three. That was followed by a 6-3 win on court two where Garrett Patton and Mitchell to hand Boise State the team point. Roskilly and Thomas Tenreiro were leading 5-3 when their match was abandoned with the clinching of the doubles point.
 
Once singles began the Broncos stormed out to a 3-0 team lead following wins on courts five and three. Roskilly was the first off defeating Nevada’s Robert Margitfalvi in straight sets 6-3, 6-3. Not longer after that Mitchell extended the Boise State advantage to 3-0 with his 6-2, 6-3 two-set victory on court three against the Wolf Pack’s Fernando Sunago.
 
Nevada then rallied claiming victories in the next two single matches to pull to within 3-2 before Boise State put the match away. 
 
Patton’s three-set battle was the match clincher for the Broncos. The senior came through for the Blue and Orange rallying from one set down to claim a gritty 1-6, 7-5, 6-3 win over Moez Chargui at No. 1 singles. Patton has now won 12 of his last 15 matches this season as he improved to a team-best 19-9 overall.  
 
The final singles match decided also went to three sets before Boise State’s Tenreiro fell 7-5, 3-6, 1-0 (10-8) on court two making the final score 4-3 Broncos.
 
Boise State will now travel to Fresno, Calif., for a Sunday afternoon encounter with the rival Fresno State Bulldogs.
