Boise State men’s tennis went a combined 6-1 in singles matches on Saturday at the Racquet Club Collegiate Invitational in Midland, Texas, and the Battle in the Bay Classic in San Francisco. Both Lewis Roskilly and Kyle Butters have advanced through the consolation brackets to play on Sunday. Roskilly will play for the consolation championship at the Racquet Club Collegiate Invitational after going 2-0 today. Butters went 3-0 Saturday to advance into Sunday’s semifinals at the Battle in the Bay Classic.

MIDLAND, Texas (9/19/2015) - Lewis Roskilly swept a pair of singles matches in the back draw at the Racquet Club Collegiate Invitational on Saturday in Midland, Texas, to advance to Sunday’s consolation championship. After dropping his first match on Friday, Roskilly has since won three-consecutive contests in the back draw including two on Saturday.

The tournament has been disrupted by bad weather over the last two days resulting in the back draw singles matches being switched to one pro-set to eight, win by two. Roskilly opened his singles play today with a close 8-6 victory over Tulsa’s Dylan McClesky in the quarterfinals. That win advanced the sophomore into the semifinals where he faced UT Arlington’s Daniel Armengol this afternoon. He battled hard against Armengol eventually winning by three 8-5 to earn a berth into Sunday’s title match versus New Mexico’s Bart Van Leijsen.

Weather forced a suspension of Friday night’s doubles match featuring the Broncos’ Roskilly and Brian Foley. The Duo was tied 8-8 versus TCU’s Greg Anderson and Reece Stadler last night and had entered a tiebreaker. TCU’s pair was up 6-5 and serving for the match when rain hit forcing the suspension until this morning. TCU’s Anderson was serving for match point Friday night and that is where they picked up this morning. The first serve sailed into the net. The second serve was well placed forcing a return error by the Bronco duo giving the victory to the Horned Frogs.

Battle in the Bay Classic Recap

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. (9/19/2015) - Saturday saw Toby Mitchell and Kyle Butters battle back through the singles consolation bracket at the Battle in the Bay Classic with both reaching the quarterfinals. Overall they went a combined 4-1 in singles at San Francisco while falling in their lone doubles match. Butters went 3-0 Saturday to advance to Sunday’s consolation semifinals against Cal’s William Griffith.

Butters went 3-0 on the day winning two in third-set tiebreakers. The freshman from New Zealand opened with a 6-3, 3-6, 1-0 (10-7) win over San Francisco’s Ryan Marker in the back draw’s round of 32. He then moved into the round of 16 against Pepperdine’s Tommy Hill where he recorded a straight-set victory 6-4, 6-3 advancing into the quarterfinals. Butters faced UC Davis’ James Wade rallying from one set down to win in a third-set tiebreaker 4-6, 7-5, 1-0 (10-7) to reach tomorrow’s semifinals.

Mitchell went 1-1 on the day defeating Pepperdine’s Lautaro Pane in straight sets 6-2, 6-0 to reach the quarterfinals. Later in the day Mitchell took on Cal’s Oskar Wikberg taking him to a third set tiebreaker before coming up short 1-6, 6-4, 1-0 (10-2), ending his run at the tournament.
