WHAT’S HAPPENING

Boise State University is heading to the 2016 TA Region Championships at Las Vegas, Nev., at the Amanda & Stacy Darling Memorial Tennis Center. This event runs Wednesday through Sunday (Oct. 19-23) with automatic berths at steak for the singles and doubles champions into next months ITA Indoor National Championships in New York.

REPRESENTING BOISE STATE

Boise State will be represented by six members of the team at the 2016 edition of this tournament at Las Vegas. Kyle Butters will lead the group which includes Jack Heslin, Ryland McDermott, Morgan Stone, Pedro Platzeck and Greg Wischer.

Singles Preview:

• Kyle Butters: This will be Butters third tournament of the fall ... he is 3-3 this fall and 27-12 overall ... he opens the regional against Weber State’s Cezary Walkusz at 1 p.m. (Mountain) Wednesday.
• Jack Heslin: Heslin brings 4-2 singles record into his second competition of the fall ... the transfer from Tennessee will face UNLV’s Peter Horvath in the round of 128 at 11:30 a.m. (Mountain) Wednesday.
• Greg Wischer: The sophomore is currently 1-3 in singles matches this fall, this is his second fall tournament ... Wischer opens at 1 p.m. Wednesday versus Hou-En Chen of Weber State.
• Ryland McDermott: The true freshman from Las Vegas, Nev., will be taking a 2-2 singles record into the regional, his second tournament of the fall ... he will take on Idaho’s Lucas Coutinho at 11:30 a.m. (Mountain) Wednesday morning.
• Morgan Stone: Stone enters his second event of the semester with a 2-2 singles record ... the sophomore from Georgia will open versus UNLV’s Richard Solberg at 12:30 p.m. (Mountain).
• Pedro Platzeck: The sophomore from Sao Paulo, Brazil, takes a 0-3 mark this fall and a 12-13 career record into the regional this week ... Platzeck will play Utah State’s Dan Echeverry at 3 p.m. (Mountain) Wednesday.

Doubles Preview

• Butters/Heslin: This is the second tournament of the fall that Butters and Heslin have played together in doubles bringing in a 2-1 record from the Battle in the Bay in late September ... they are seeded No. 9 and have a bye into Thursday’s (Oct. 20) second round.
• Platzeck/Wischer: This is the first time that Platzeck and Wischer have played together this fall, the tandem was 2-0 last spring ... they will face a doubles team made up of Weber State’s Scott Hintze and BYU’s JD Milan at 10 a.m. (Mountain) on Wednesday.
• McDermott/Stone: This is the first time that these two have played doubles together ... McDermott and Stone will take on New Mexico’s Ricky Hernandez Tong and Rodolfo Jauregui Wednesday at 10 a.m. (Mountain).
