DENVER, Colo. – Junior Laura Boguet of the New Mexico State women’s tennis team has been named the Western Athletic Conference Women’s Tennis Player of the Month for September, as was announced by the conference office Thursday, Oct. 2.

The honor for Boguet comes after her first fall competition as an Aggie in NMSU’s own fall invite that was held Sept. 19-21.

“This is really exciting to have a brand new player in her first month of competition in college get this award,” head coach Don Ball said. “We knew coming in that she was a really good player and this acknowledges that. It’s nice that others are taking notice.”

Boguet finished the month of September with a 3-1 singles record and a 3-0 doubles record with freshman teammate Natalia Salum Soto. She won all three of her singles matches in straight sets and her only singles loss came at the hands of Oklahoma State’s JoAnne Karaitiana.

In doubles play, Boguet and Salum Soto won the doubles draw at the Aggie Fall Invite. The two won all three of their doubles matches in route to the title.

The Annecy Le Vieux, France, native looks to build on her game as the Aggies continue with fall play. NMSU’s next competition comes, Oct. 10-12, in Fullerton, Calif., as New Mexico State is competing in the Cal State Fullerton Fall Intercollegiates.
