Houghton Wins 300th At Iowa

TERRE HAUTE, IN – The University of Iowa men's tennis team defeated Indiana State Friday, 6-1. The win marks the 300th career victory at Iowa for Head Coach Steve Houghton. The 59th-ranked Hawkeyes move to 2-0 on the season. 
"I am very happy to have reached 300 wins," saidHoughton. "I have been blessed with a lot of great players and a lot of great assistant coaches over all these years."
Iowa claimed the doubles point to begin the dual, taking two of three matches. Christian Bierich and Nikita Zotov defeated Mpiloenhle Migogo and Josh Smith at No. 1 doubles, 8-4, to get things started for the Hawkeyes. Tommy McGeorge and Will Vasos continued their strong play at No. 3 doubles, winning 8-2 to claim the doubles point for Iowa. The duo defeated Milos Pavlovic and Blake Douglas.
The Hawkeyes kept their momentum going into singles competition. Vasos started things off quickly for Iowa. The freshman defeated Jon Sigurdsson 6-0, 6-0, at No. 4 singles. Reinoud Haal defeated Pavlovic 6-2, 6-2, at the No. 3 position. Bierich, ranked 119th nationally in singles, clinched the victory for Iowa. The senior defeated Smith 6-4, 6-4, at No. 1 singles. At the No. 2 position, Zotov defeated Migogo 6-2, 6-3. Greg Holm also claimed a singles victory for the Hawkeyes. The senior defeated Douglas 7-5, 6-0, at the No. 6 position.   
Iowa returns home to host 48th-ranked Denver Sunday at the Hawkeye Tennis and Recreation Complex. The match is scheduled to begin at noon.
