Houston Completes Play at USTA/ITA Regional
Monday, 10/22/2012

WACO, Texas - The University of Houston Women's Tennis team concluded action at the USTA/ITA Regional Championship on Sunday at the Hurd Tennis Center.

Liselot Koenen was the lone Cougar in action, falling to UTSA's Isabelle Jonsson by a score of 6-1, 6-2 in the fourth round of the singles consolation draw.

"We have been training hard and had some solid showings leading up to regionals, so I think we all expected to do more in Waco, but I am proud of our outstanding effort and attitude across the board, even if the results were not what we would have hoped for, head coach Patrick Sullivan said.

"We had our chances in several spots and had our play been a bit tougher in some key situations we would have had a great weekend, results-wise. As an optimist, what you take away is that we're not where we need to be yet, but at the same time having been very competitive with the best in our region should give us plenty of motivation to work hard from now until January to bridge that gap."

The Cougars will compete in the city of Houston for the remainder of the fall tournament season, beginning with the Downtown Club Charity Classic Pro-Am on Saturday and followed by the annual Cougar Fall Open on Nov. 2-4.
