No. 30 Texas Tech men’s tennis snaps two-match losing streak by beating No. 59 UNLV

LUBBOCK, Texas – The No. 30 Texas Tech men’s tennis team snapped a two-match losing streak by beating No. 59 UNLV, 6-1, on Saturday at the Aztec Tennis Center in San Diego, Calif.

The Red Raiders (8-5) picked up the doubles point to start the match winning at the No. 1 and No. 2 spots over the Rebels (10-6). Tech’s 10th-ranked tandem of Raony Carvalho and Christian Rojmar defeated Elliot Wronski and Luca Barlocchi, 8-4, at No. 1. The No. 2 duo of Sinisa Markovic and Michael Breler clinched the doubles point as they beat Attila Toth and Mehdi Bouras, 8-6.

Tech then went on to win five of six singles matches with the first coming at No. 4 as Rojmar was victorious over Wesley Burrows, 6-2, 6-4. The next win came at No. 6 as Milos Kustudija beat Bryan Miller, 6-2, 6-1. Clinching the victory for the Red Raiders was Gonzalo Escobar, as he won over Barlocchi, 6-2, 6-1. Rounding out Tech’s singles wins were No. 45 Carvalho at No. 1, beating Wronski, 6-3, 6-4, and Breler defeating Toth, 7-6 (5), 6-2, at the No. 5 position.

“It is good to get back on the winning side after two emotional and physical losses,” stated head coach Tim Siegel. “Now we get four days to recover before we play in the Blue-Gray Classic.”

Next up for the Red Raiders is the Blue-Gray Tennis Classic March 19-22, in Montgomery, Ala.
