Texas Tech men’s tennis will compete in the Blue Gray National Tennis Classic March 18-21

 

LUBBOCK, Texas – The 16th-ranked Texas Tech men’s tennis team hit the road again as it arrived in Montgomery, Ala., on Tuesday for the 2010 Blue Gray National Tennis Classic, which will be held at the Lagoon Park Tennis Center on March 18-21.

 

Tech will face No. 63 Harvard in its first match on Thurs., March 18, at 2 p.m.

 

Despite not playing last week, the Red Raiders dropped one spot in this week’s Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) rankings to No. 16.

 

One of the most prestigious collegiate tournaments, the Blue Gray National Tennis Classic boasts some of the top college tennis teams in the country. This year’s 16-team tournament consists of 13 ranked teams, including three in the top 30, as the Red Raiders enter the tournament as the highest ranked team and are seeded No. 1. The other 15 teams competing in the tournament include: No. 33 Arizona (No. 4 seed), No. 71 Boise State, No. 26 Fresno State (No. 3 seed), Furman, No. 63 Harvard, Middle Tennessee, No. 38 Notre Dame, No. 17 Oklahoma (No. 2 seed), No. 54 Oklahoma State, No. 44 Penn State, San Diego State, No. 66 USF, No. 39 Tulsa, No. 73 VCU and No. 69 William & Mary.

After having last week off, Tech enters the tournament with a 12-1 record and is currently on a 10-match winning streak. In the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) rankings, the Red Raiders have two singles players and two doubles teams ranked. Sophomore Raony Carvalho is currently No. 15, while sophomore Gonzalo Escobar is No. 63. Carvalho and sophomore Rafael Garcia are ranked 18th in doubles and Escobar and Andre Stabile are ranked 23rd.
