BATON ROUGE—The LSU women’s tennis team will take a break from conference competition as it plays host to Tulane and Grambling in a St. Patrick’s Day doubleheader Wednesday at W.T. “Dub” Robinson Stadium.
In LSU’s (4-9, 1-3 SEC) last contests, the Lady Tigers claimed their first conference win over Mississippi State but split a doubleheader to then-ranked-22nd Ole Miss and Southern. The team fell to Ole Miss but bounced back to blank Southern, 7-0.
LSU is highlighted by sophomore Whitney Wolf and freshman Kaitlin Burns. Wolf owns five dual match wins while Burns leads the team with nine. Together, the duo plays as the Lady Tigers’ top pair with a 3-2 record.
Tulane (8-4) is led by Miriam Kurdadze, who is 1-1 against nationally ranked foes and holds a 9-2 dual match record at the No. 1 slot. In doubles, Kurdadze and Emma Levy hold 6-3 record on the No. 1 court while Hila Elster and Elizabeth Hamlin are undefeated at the No. 3 position with a 6-0 record.
Grambling notched a win against Southern Arkansas.
“Tulane will be a very tough test. They’re having a very good year and are a much improved team,” said head coach Tony Minnis. “There’s a chance for us to get some momentum against Tulane and Grambling. It’s good to take a break from conference matches. We’re excited to get out and battle the Green Wave and Lady Tigers tomorrow.”
First serve against Tulane is slated for 3 p.m. CDT with Grambling following at 7 p.m.
