Longhorns open conference play this weekend at home against the Wildcats and Jayhawks.

 

WHAT:  No. 32 Texas (4-3) opens Big 12 Conference play this weekend when it hosts Kansas State and Kansas.

 

WHEN:

UT vs. Kansas State – Friday, March 19, 1 p.m. Central

UT vs. Kansas – Sunday, March 21 – Noon Central

 

WHERE:  Penick-Allison Tennis Center – Austin, Texas

 

LAST MEETINGS vs. KANSAS STATE/KANSAS :  Texas defeated Kansas State by a 6-1 count on April 19, 2009 in Manhattan, Kan.  The Longhorns blanked Kansas, 7-0 on April 18, 2009 in Lawrence, Kan.

 

LAST TIME OUT:  Texas defeated SMU by a 4-3 count on March 6.

THE 2009-10 LONGHORNS:  Under fifth-year head coach Patty Fendick-McCain, the Longhorns return five of six singles and doubles starters from the 2009 squad that reached the finals at the Big 12 Championships and the round of 32 at the NCAA Championships.

 

Corovic returns after earning All-Big 12 singles honors in each of her three seasons in Austin.  Senior Sarah Lancaster posted a 19-3 dual-match record last season and went unbeaten in conference play.
Sophomore Krista Damico brought a 13-4 overall fall singles record into the dual-match season.

 

Freshman Aeriel Ellis turned in a fall season that produced appearances in the main singles draws at the ITA All-American Championships and the ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships.  Ellis totaled a 16-5 singles mark in the fall.
