BATON ROUGE—After hours of playing, the LSU women’s tennis team defeated Tulane by a 4-3 decision and blanked Grambling State, 7-0, Wednesday at W.T. “Dub” Robinson Stadium.

“We had some great wins tonight. I feel like our team is tired mentally. We’re going to take a little break to rejuvenate because it’s been a long patch of tough matches,” said head coach Tony Minnis. “I’m really pleased with how well we played. Tulane is a tough team, and it’s great we got a win over Grambling, too.”

LSU (6-9 1-3 SEC) took an early lead against Tulane as it captured the doubles point. On court two, Keri Frankenberger and Hannah Robinson finished first as the Lady Tiger duo raced past Lindsay Dvorak and Emma Helisten 8-4. On court three, Nicole Kantor and Ebie Wilson ousted an undefeated Elizabeth Hamlin and Hila Elster pair 8-5 to clinch the doubles point.

The Lady Tigers’ top tandem Whitney Wolf and Kaitlin Burns fought hard but were not able to come up with the win as they fell to Mariam Kurdadze and Emma Levy by a close 9-7 score.

In singles, LSU’s Kylie Adamek finished first on court six as she dominated Elster 6-2, 6-0. Kantor claimed a win over Hamlin on court three in a three-set affair 3-6, 6-0, 6-2.

With the Lady Tigers leading the match, 3-0, Frankenberger clinched the overall match in a back-and-fourth three-set battle 6-4, 3-6, 6-4 against Dvorak.

Tulane’s (8-5, 0-2 C-USA) Helisten notched a 6-4, 6-4 win over Wilson on court five.

On court one, Wolf dropped the first set to Kurdadze 7-6(2) but gained momentum in the second set as she outlasted the Green Wave 7-6(1). In the super tiebreaker, the Lady Tiger gave tremendous effort but was not able to upend Kurdadze as she won 10-7.

On court two, Burns competed in a marathon match but was not able to give the Lady Tigers their fifth point as she lost to Levy in a competitive three-set duel 4-6, 7-5, 7-6(4).

Against Grambling, Kantor and Wilson knocked off Nicole Terrell and Maia Semerdijeva 8-0. On court one, Wolf and Burns beat Jorden Shaw and Melanie Davis 8-0 on court one.

The Lady Tigers shut out Grambling in singles on each court.
