College Tennis News - Texas blanks Kansas State, 7-0

Horns sweep Wildcats in all nine singles and doubles matches Friday afternoon.

                AUSTIN, Texas – Texas (5-3) claimed the doubles point and swept the six singles matches on its way to a 7-0 victory over Kansas State (3-6) Friday afternoon at UT’s Penick-Allison Tennis Center.

                Texas opened the match with a decisive sweep of the doubles session. Junior Amanda Craddock and sophomore Krista Damico teamed up for an 8-2 win at first doubles over Kansas State’s Antea Huljev and Nina Sertic. The Horns clinched the doubles point with a win at the second slot, where senior Vanja Corovic and freshman Aeriel Ellis knocked off the Wildcats’ Karla Bonacic and Petra Chuda by an 8-2 count. UT finished off the sweep at third doubles, as juniors Caroline Larsson and senior Sarah Lancaster posted an 8-4 win over Carmen Borau-Ramos and Ana Gomez-Aleman.

                Texas clinched the team victory with consecutive straight-set victories at the third, second and sixth singles slots. Damico knocked off Gomez-Aleman by a 6-2, 6-0 count at third singles, and Corovic posted a 6-1, 6-3 win over Sertic at second singles. Lancaster provided the clinching point at sixth singles with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Chuda.

                Ellis staked Texas to a 5-0 lead after dealing KSU’s Huljev a 6-1, 7-5 defeat at first singles, and junior Maggie Mello went on to finish off Bonacic by a 6-4, 2-6, 6-0 count at fifth singles. Larsson outlasted K-State’s Borau-Ramos in a third-set match tiebreak at fourth singles.

                Texas resumes play on Sunday when it hosts Kansas at noon.
