DANVILLE, Ill. -- The Eastern Illinois men's tennis squad opened up Ohio Valley Conference action versus Tennessee Tech on Sunday, as the men lost, 0-6, with doubles play not necessary.
Due to predicted inclement weather in the area, the match was moved to the Indoor Tennis Club in nearby Danville.
The Panthers failed to pickup a singles win, so doubles play was unnecessary for the final team outcome.
Both sophomore Justin Haag and freshman Michael Sperry pushed their TTU No. 4 and No. 5 opponents to the edge, however, as each came up short in three-set nailbiters. Senior Jeff Rutherford also fell in a tight battle, losing at the top of the lineup by consecutive 7-6 scores.
With the loss, the EIU guys fell to 3-10 overall and 0-1 in the OVC, while TTU improved to 5-3 overall and an unblemished 3-0 league mark.
