AMHERST, Mass. - The UMass women's tennis team capped off a successful weekend homestand with a 6-1 victory over Long Island on Sunday. UMass now moves to 7-5 on the season (4-1 Atlantic 10) and has won two matches in a row, including six out of the last seven. The team completed a sweep at doubles for the second straight day and received singles victories from Yuliana Motyl, Jessica Podlofsky, Julia Comas, Chanel Glasper and Hazuki Onaga.

Motyl put the finishing touches on her best weekend of the spring by taking down junior Taysha Blessington, 6-2, 6-0 from second singles. The win marked her third in a row after notching wins at first singles against Rhode Island and second singles against #56 Dartmouth. Over the course of the weekend, Motyl lost just 11 total games in six singles sets. She also took down the #20 ranked player in the Northeast Region, Akiko Okuda, against Dartmouth while adding three wins at first doubles alongside partner Chantal Swiszcz.

UMass started out the day with another doubles sweep as all three doubles pairings came out with wins. From first doubles, Motyl and Swiszcz continued their mid-season tear with an 8-5 win over Long Island's Taysha Blessington and Sanne Louwers. Swiszcz and Motyl have won their last six matches at first doubles and it has been exactly one month since the duo lost their last match (Feb. 4 at Columbia against Bianca Sanon and Tiana Takenagaby by a score of 8-5).

At second doubles, Sonia Bokhari and Hazuki Onaga teamed up for an 8-4 win. The two got back to their winning ways as they had not played together since the match against Dartmouth where they fell, 8-6.

Rounding out the doubles portion of the match was Jessica Podlofsky and Jocelyn Providence who defeated Nancy Zonneveld and Brittany Thompson, 8-0.

UMass would then go on to capture five out of the six singles matches. Comas, Glasper, Podlofsky and Onaga left the Bay Road Tennis Club with two-match winning streaks while Motyl extended her streak to three.

The freshman Onaga received the nod at No. 6 singles, besting Brittany Thompson 6-2, 6-0 in her second career start at singles.

UMass will receive a break from competition this coming weekend before heading to South Carolina for a three-match road trip that will start with Charleston Southern on Monday, Mar. 19.
