JACKSONVILLE — It has been an astonishing 48 hours for Troup High School senior, Caitlin Renson.

First, Renson sign a national letter to attend Jacksonville College on a women's tennis scholarship in ceremonies that were held Thursday morning at the high school library.

And tonight at Tiger Stadium Renson will officially become a graduate of Troup High School.

“It's been a real exciting time for me,” Renson said. “I think it (playing tennis at JC) will be fun and I'm looking forward to getting up there and improving as a tennis player.”

Renson said she first learned of the opportunity to play for the Lady Jaguars, who will be fielding a team for the first time in school history this fall, after talking with classmates MJ Ghene and Will Langston, who signed scholarships last week to play men's golf at JC.

Renson, who got involved in tennis for a somewhat unique reason, said that she has been playing tennis for six years.

“In high school tennis is really the only sport where really if you are not a fantastic player, you can still join the team and work on getting better,” she said.

Renson said that she feels her serve and volley are the stronger points of her game.

JC head tennis coach Kenneth Michaud said that Renson’s tennis assets should enable her to have success on the junior college circuit.

“With her size (nearly 6-feet tall) having a powerful serve can be a real plus,” Michaud said. “The serve is the great equalizer in tennis and players that have strong serves usually have an advantage.”

Michaud went on to say that Renson being from the area was also a nice bonus.

“We are thrilled to have Caitlin (Renson) join our women's tennis program,” he said. “She ranks No. 8 in her graduating class, so she is used to taking care of things in the classroom, which is important.

“Another neat thing about Caitlin is she is a local kid. For us to establish the proper foundation, it is important that kids from the area are a part of our mix.”

Renson, who was coached by Rita Salinas at Troup, is the daughter of Debbie and Ricky Renson.
