AUSTIN, Texas – University of Texas women's tennis coach Patty Fendick-McCain announced Thursday the signings of Ratnika Batra [raht-NEE-kah BAHT-rah] (New Delhi, India) and Pippa Horn (West Harling, England) to athletics scholarship agreements (ASA).  Batra and Horn will begin competing with the Longhorns this fall.

"We are very excited to have Ratnika and Pippa join our Longhorns squad this season," Fendick-McCain said.  "They will bring to campus a wealth of experience from their extensive international junior tennis competitions.  Ratnika and Pippa are talented and wonderful young ladies who will represent The University of Texas with distinction."

Batra, who at age 14 became India's youngest women's national champion, reached the second round of the girls' singles draw at the 2012 Roland Garros (French Open) Junior Championships.  Batra has ranked as high as No. 39 in the ITF world junior tennis rankings.  A member of India's Junior Fed Cup Team (2008-09), Batra was a semifinalist at the Osaka World Junior Championship in 2011.

Horn competed at the last three Wimbledon Junior Championships (2011-13) and represented her native Great Britain at the 2011 Junior Fed Cup finals.  A member of Team Aegon, an elite squad of top British tennis players, Horn was Great Britain's 18-and-under national singles champion in 2010 and its national doubles co-champion in 2011.

Horn has represented Great Britain in European team competitions since age 12.  She boasts three ITF Grade 5 singles titles in Ireland and Scotland and an ITF Grade 3 singles title in Malaysia.  Horn has ranked as high as No. 202 in the ITF world junior tennis rankings.

Texas opens the 2013-14 season next month at the Duke Invitational.
