LAS VEGAS, Nev. (10-20-2016) - Boise State’s Kiwi Konnection of Kyle Butters and Jack Heslin remain alive in the doubles main draw at the ITA Mountain Regional to lead the Broncos. The Bronco tandem defeated New Mexico State’s Enrique Asmar and Sergi Espias 8-1 to advance to Friday’s round of 16.
In singles Boise State freshman Ryland McDermott and sophomore Morgan Stone are still alive in the consolation bracket as both won their lone singles matches of the day. McDermott, playing in his hometown, defeated BYU’s Derek Vincent in a tough third set tiebreak 6-2, 4-7, 10-7.
Stone also reached the consolation round of 32 with a pro-set tiebreaker in the third 3-6, 6-3, 10-8 over Nevada’s Sandro Lena.
The rest of the Bronco squad all lost on Thursday and have been eliminated from the tournament. Kyle Butters split two matches today defeating Quentin Wacquez from Idaho State 4-6, 6-4, 6-0 in the round of 32 then fell to in a third set tiebreaker 5-7, 6-0, 7-6(3) versus New Mexico State’s Christofer Goncalvas in the round of 16.
Jack Heslin fell in the main draw’s round of 32 to Kai Wehnelt from Utah State 7-6 (5), 6-2.
In consolation draw matches Greg Wischer fell to Julien Evrard of Utah 6-4, 6-7 (4), 10-7. Meanwhile, Pedro Platzeck lost to Max Olson of Air Force 6-2, 6-3.
