WHAT IS HAPPENING

• Boise State returns home to host a trio of matches this weekend at the Eagle Tennis Club at Eagle, Idaho.
• The action starts with a doubleheader on Saturday featuring the Broncos (1-6) and Idaho State Bengals (2-2) at 10 a.m., followed by Boise State and Brigham Young at6 p.m.
• The weekend wraps-up on Sunday when the Broncos host the Utah Utes at 1:30 p.m. in a simultaneous doubleheader with the women's team who will be playing Idaho State at the same time. This is a first in Boise State tennis history.

LAST TIME OUT

• The Broncos traveled to the midwest to Evanston, Ill., last weekend where they played No. 9 Northwestern and Harvard. The young Broncos squad lost in both encounters falling 4-0 to their host Northwestern on Friday (Feb. 3), before falling 7-0 to Harvard on Sunday (Feb. 5).

NEXT UP

• Boise State will hit the road for one match on Sunday (Feb. 19) at Santa Clara.

LEADING THE BRONCOS

• Boise State is currently being led by sophomore transfer Jack Heslin (Auckland, New Zealand) who has accumulated a 10-6 overall record in singles and 3-3 mark during the spring duals playing primarily at the No. 3 position.
• Kyle Butters, a sophomore from Wanganui, New Zealand, has been playing at No. 1 singles where he is 1-4 this spring, he is 7-8 on the year.
• Freshman Brian Tran is competing at No. 2 singles where he is 2-4 during the duals season and 5-5 overall on the year.
• The doubles team of Kyle Butters and Jack Heslin has been the most successful combination this year going 6-3 overall.

PRESEASON RANKINGS

• Boise State's doubles team of Kyle Butters and Jack Heslin, The Kiwi Konnection, enter the spring semester ranked 51st nationally by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association.
• The Boise State sophomore tandem went 6-2 as a doubles team last fall and advanced to the title match at the ITA Mountain Region Championship in Las Vegas, Nev., in October. They came within one victory of advancing to the ITA National Indoor Championship.
• The duo also enters the year ranked second in the ITA Mountain Region.
• Butters, a sophomore from Wanganui, New Zealand, enters the spring duals ranked 10th in singles for the ITA Mountain Region, while Heslin, a sophomore from Auckland, New Zealand, starts ranked 17th.

REBUILDING YEAR

• This will be viewed as a rebuilding year for the Broncos men's tennis team as Boise State features one of the youngest NCAA Division I squads in the country with no upperclassmen, seniors or juniors, playing this year.
• The 2017 active roster features five sophomores and three freshmen.
• The sophomore class includes: Kyle Butters (Wanganui, New Zealand), Jack Heslin (Auckland, New Zealand), Pedro Platzeck (Sao Paulo, Brazil), Morgan Stone(Marietta, Ga.) and Greg Wischer Grand Forks, N.D.).
• The freshmen class includes: Ryland McDermott (Las Vegas, Nev.), Harvey Shackleton (Hertfordshire, England) and Brian Tran (Greystanes, Australia).
• Lewis Roskilly, a junior from Stevenage, England, will not compete this year.

THE GENERAL, Greg Patton

• Greg Patton enters his 21st season at Boise State where he has posted a 444-180 record while winning 14 conference championships in three different conferences.
• This is the General's 37th season as a collegiate head coach ... Patton has put together an impressive 795-373 record, which currently ranks him first nationally for most wins by an active NCAA Division I men's tennis coach and fourth all-time.  
• Since returning to Boise State in 2003, Patton guided the team to four-consecutive Mountain West Tournament Championships (2012-15) during its first four seasons in the conference. He also earned Western Athletic Conference titles in four of nine seasons (2003, 2005-07), as well as a WAC regular-season championship in 2009.
• During Patton's 20-year tenure with the Broncos he has coached five players to All-America status, including Luke Shields twice in singles (2005 and 2007) and once in doubles (2005), Thomas Schoeck in doubles (2005) with Shields, Guillame Bouvier in singles (2004), as well as the doubles team of Ernesto Diaz and Albin Polonyi (1996).

MOUNTAIN WEST CHAMPIONSHIP COMES TO BOISE

• The 2017 Mountain West Conference Men's Tennis Championship Tournament will be held April 28-30 at Boise State's Appleton Tennis Center.
• This is the first time that the league's championship event has been in Boise.
• The Broncos have won four MW titles (2012-15) in their first five years as members of the conference.
