COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State men’s tennis team has started the season hot posting a record of 5-0 including a win in last week’s ITA Kickoff Weekend event here in Columbus.
The Buckeyes are coming off a weekend that saw them victorious over VCU, Arkansas and Toldeo over a two-day span. The Buckeyes defeated VCU 4-0 and Arkansas 4-1 to take the ITA Kickoff Weekend title and punched their ticket to the ITA National Team Indoor Championships that will take place later this month.
Ohio State will face their first top 10 opponent of the year in Stanford. Stanford finished last season with a record of 22-4 and ended the season ranked No. 7. Ohio State is currently ranked No. 2 in the ITA team rankings.
The Buckeyes have five players ranked nationally in singles and two doubles tandems in the ITA top 10. JJ Wolf, Kyle Seelig, John McNally, Tim Seibert and James Trotter are currently ranked in the top 125 players in the nation while Seelig, Alex Kobelt, Martin Joyce and Hunter Tubert are ranked in the top 10 in doubles.
Stanford currently has four players ranked in the top 125 in singles with Axel Geller, Sameer Kumar, Alexandre Rotsaert and William Genesen all ranked nationally.
Ohio State will look to get their first top 10 win of the season on Saturday and improve to 6-0 on the season.
