The Australian Open is the next grand slam event in the tennis calendar and it is now just a couple of months away, some lesser stars will be hoping to make a name for themselves across the globe with the usual rivals of Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic potentially meeting yet again.

Very rarely is he a pushover when facing the top seeds such as Djokovic and Nadal which suggests his failure to overcome weaker opponents is a mentality issue that he must conquer if he is to have serious hopes of winning a grand slam next year.
Less opposition?
Federer would have certainly been one of the favorites and his departure from the sport represents a huge boost to the chances of the top seeds to reach the latter stages comfortably, in Nadal's case he can mainly focus on Djokovic, who is by far his strongest opponent.
