The Bobcat Men's Tennis program finished off an outstanding season with a 4-3 win over Idaho State University to take the BSC Championships and earn an automatic bid to the NCAA Division I National Championships.
The Cats lost the doubles point against ISU and came back to win the top 4 singles matches. After Federico Ueltschi, Marek Gebicki, and Tejeshwara Chigateri won their matches at 1, 2, and 3 singles the match was tied at 3-3 with Braden Olson left on the court.The team captain from Missoula, Montana stepped it up to win his match and clinch the championship with a 7-6,7-6 victory. Montana State won the semi-finals against Northern Arizona with a 4-0 decision. In the semi-finals Jake Berriochoa and Adam Stutts led the way with a fast doubles victory, followed by a quick win by Jake Berriochoa at number 6 singles to get the team rolling.
The Men completed one of their best seasons in school history (17-5, 9-0 Conference). Here are the Bobcat highlights:
- Federico Ueltschi won 6 straight matches to make the main draw at the All American. In addition he is the first nationally ranked player in Bobcat history, reaching a high of #62.
- First time to beat Air Force Academy (5-2)
- Undefeated in Conference
- The team earned Big Sky Player of the week honors six times
