The University of Texas at Arlington women's tennis squad extended its win streak to five matches and took sole possession of first place in the Southland Conference with a 4-3 victory at McNeese State Saturday afternoon. UTA improves to 5-3 overall and 4-0 in league action.
UTA earned the first point by claiming two of the three doubles flights. Pavla Mesterova and Daniela Novakova improved to 7-1 on the year with a their fifth straight doubles win. Anete Rozkalne and Monika Peciulionyte paired for an 8-5 win over Ann Grobbelaar and Madeleine Hakansson at the No. 2 position.
Mesterova continued her solid singles play, making quick work of Noelia Furno, 6-2, 6-1, at the top singles flight. Novakova scored for UTA with a 6-4, 7-6 (7-3) win over Magali Risoleo at the No. 2 position while Peciulionyte clinced the win with a straight set win at the No. 3 position.
Texas-Arlington returns to action March 19 when it plays host to Lamar at the UTA Tennis Center.
