NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (April 19, 2007) - Old Dominion sophomore Harel Srugo (Kibutz Gazit, Israel) was chosen as the 2007 Colonial Athletic Association men's tennis Player of the Year by a committee of the league's head coaches.

Also earning top honors from the conference were Georgia State freshman Mattias Skold (Linkoping, Sweden) as CAA Rookie of the Year and Old Dominion's Darryl Cummings as CAA Coach of the Year.

Srugo compiled a record of 30-10 in singles for the Monarchs this season, including a 12-9 mark against ranked opponents. The sophomore is currently ranked #24 in the nation by the ITA after climbing to as high as #7 earlier this year. Srugo captured the Wilson/ITA Mideast Regional singles title and reached the quarterfinals of the ITA National Indoor Championships. Srugo shared CAA Player of the Year honors in 2006 and was also the conference's Rookie of the Year.

Skold had a sensational freshman campaign, posting a spring dual match record of 15-3 and 23-8 overall mark for a Georgia State squad that is ranked #50 in the nation. He played primarily at the #3 singles position and was 10-2 at the spot. Skold was also 11-7 in doubles, with all but one of his matches coming at the number one or two spot.

Cummings earned CAA men's Coach of the Year honors for the third time after guiding Old Dominion to a 19-6 overall mark. The Monarchs are currently ranked #32 in the nation after rising to as high as #18 earlier this year, which was the highest in the program's history. ODU defeated five ranked foes.

The six players on the All-CAA singles first team are all ranked in the top 97 nationally. Joining #24 Srugo on the first team are 31st-ranked ODU senior Henrique Cancado (Belo Horizonte, Brazil), 66th-ranked VCU senior Petr Olsak (Novy Jicin, Czech Republic), 69th-ranked Georgia State senior Martin Stiegwardt (Quito, Ecuador), 85th-ranked VCU senior Arnaud Le Cloerec and 97th-ranked William & Mary junior Alex Cojanu (Hallandale, Fla.).

Four doubles teams that are ranked in the top 35 nationally received All-CAA first team honors as well. Cojanu and W&M senior Colin O'Brien (Dublin, Ireland) are ranked #20, while he and Tribe freshman Keziel Juneau (Repentigny, Quebec) are #35. Also making the squad were the 24th-ranked tandem of Srguo and Cancado and the 32nd ranked team of Olsak and Le Cloerec.

The awards were presented Thursday night prior to the quarterfinals of the 2007 CAA Men's Tennis Championship, which resumes Friday morning at the Huntington Park Tennis Center in Newport News. The tournament runs through Sunday, with the men's championship set for 1 p.m. on April 22.
