The University of New Mexico women’s tennis team won both doubles matches and split the four singles matches against Monterrey Tech in an exhibition Wednesday.

Jennifer Ryba and Mackenzie White paired up at No. 1 against Ana Trevino and Natalia Salum. The Lobo pair was behind early but fought to stay in the match. Ryba and White went on a 5-2 run to win the match 8-6.

Redshirt freshman Ashley Bonner teamed up with the newest Lobo, freshman Anya Villanueva-Forte in the other doubles match against Adriana Canepa and Nora Madrato. The match seesawed until it was tied at 7 all. Bonner and Villanueva-Forte won the final two points to win the match 9-7.

In singles, a pair of freshman earned the Lobos two victories. Victoria Tessmar won her match 6-1, 6-1 against Bety Bravo. Emma Hayman battled against Salum at No. 1. Salum won the first set 7-5 but Hayman came back to win the second 7-5 and then used a 10-8 tiebreaker for the match. Ryba played a single set match against Trevino and gave the Lobos the edge with a 6-2 win.

At the No. 2 spot, Maria Sotirchos met up with Madrato. The Monterrey Tech freshman never trailed in the match, winning 6-4, 6-2. Villanueva-Forte played the No. 3 against Canepa. The match was tied 4-4 in the first set but Canepa fought for the 7-5 win. In the second set, the Lobo freshman tied the set at 5 but fell 7-5, 7-5.

Next for the Lobos is No. 7 Northwestern on Saturday at 5 p.m.
