URBANA, Ill. - The women’s tennis team’s run in the NCAA Championships came to a close in Sunday’s semifinal round, ending the Crimson Tide’s historic season. For the first time in program history, Alabama advanced as a team to the Round of 16 and had a singles player and doubles team make the semifinals.

Alexa Guarachi began the day for the Tide in her match against 11th-ranked Mary Weatherholt of Nebraska, who would top Guarachi, 6-0, 6-3, to move on to the singles final. After a long weather delay, Guarachi and Mary Anne Macfarlane would take to the courts for their doubles match against UCLA’s Robin Anderson and Skylar Morton, which was a battle throughout. In the first, the Tide duo broke to open and led until Anderson and Morton broke back to even the set at 3-3. UCLA then took the lead at 5-4 and won two of the next three games to win the set, 7-5. In the second, Alabama, again, would lead 2-0, but another comeback for the Bruin pair tied the set at 3-3. From there, Anderson and Morton won two straight games and would serve for the match, leading 5-3. Guarachi and Macfarlane battled to keep the match alive, winning that game, however, UCLA would take it in the next game, winning the set, 6-4.
